Cool How to keep REVIT file size smaller

Please add to this thread as to what is the best way to keep REVIT file size smaller.

    My contribution:

    1) Don't explode ACAD drawings, it brings in all the $$$ linetypes and hatch patterns.
    2) Use purge
    3) Delete not used line types and fill patterns

even after a purge, 'save as' seems to reduce files sizes dramatically.

    Hi All.

    Here is my contribution.

    1. Link files rather than import.
2.Create families if there are multiple instances of the same thing.
    3.Export rather than capture renders
    4.Turn Off Unnecessary Worksets/Objects
    5.Avoid 3D/Perspective Views
    6.Keep Unnecessary Windows Closed

Well that my 2 cents worth

#4 and #6 should impove performance, but won't affect file size.

One of the biggest things I've seen talked about on here is the use of families and components vs. line work. Thousands of detail lines take ALOT more information in the file than multiple instances of the same family. Each and every line has infromation attached to it about where it starts, where it ends, line type, weight, pattern, what views it's in, etc. Whereas if you have a family, you have one file for the family and only the information about each type parameter.
