Question An Experiment in Collective Reviting

    An Experiment in Collective Reviting
    Original Forum Post: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=121358

Intent: To determine if there is a collective improvement mechanism at work on AUGI that will continually modify and improve a family beyond that which an individual would be able to achieve.

    Attached Family:
    Version: Revit Architecture 2010
    Description:
A simple door family that has been modified as follows:
Frame Configuration – “Timely” knock down
    Plan Representation –
ADA clearance boundaries (visibility on/off control)
    Clearance Boundary Configuration Drivers
4 parameters under the Other heading titled
(Push Option, Pull Option, Latch Option, Closer Option)

By selecting the appropriate numerical values for these parameters
you can drive the Clearance boundary dimensions.

The Pull and Push numerical options can be identified via the formula
numbers and their Corresponding (grayed out) Parameter. The Latch
and Closer options are 1 for yes and 0 for no.

    Guidelines:
If you improve the attached family please build upon the existing concept and describe your improvement when reposting. If your approach is able to achieve the same ends via a radically different approach that improves usability then deconstructing / reconstructing the family is permitted. Merging multiple improvement posts is also encouraged.

    Rumors:
You can drive these parameters from the plan interface with drop down menus.

    Hey Carl,
Although I don't have time at the moment to play with this family.....
I did look at it in the project environment.

I could not access many of the selections.

Do I need to place the schedule too before all of the options are available, such as closer, and approach types?

    Good job so far!!!

Hi Carl, I'll try and make a mod and upload soon, but it looks great, the only change that I would make is to add an angle parameter, so that the modeller can type in the door swing angle, such as a 45 degree door, I've even worked on a project that showed a 170 degree swing. Adding the parameter within the family, rather than creating a seperate door would also make it easier on the door schedule.

    Cheers

    Steve,
You should be able to access the control parameters through the instance parameters. Select each door individually and then its instance parameters. Scroll down to the "Other" category and then you can set the Push, Pull, Latch and Closer options by selecting the appropriate number from the grayed out options above each respective parameter. I can cover this at our Revit meeting tomorrow night if you like. The clearance visibility is controlled via the type parameter for visibility.

    Ryan,
regarding the door swing the ability to actually have the 3d door swing to an open position would be great for those animations where you transistion from the exterior to the interior. I know many people move to 3DS to script their anims and control the door opening as a separate animation script. If we could just open the door to a preset 90 degrees that would be sufficient to keep us from running through it.

    Carl,
That is an interesting idea for animations, but I was just going for a simpler route and talking just about architecture plans. Sometimes, when you have two doors near each other in a corner, it's nice to set a 45 degree angle so that the doors don't overlap in plan, as it would with a Revit standard door. I've added an angle parameter to my doors so that you can just type in whatever angle you would like to show. It's done with Symbolic Lines, so it doesn't affect the elevations I have a file at home, I'll try to upload this evening.
