Classic example of good technique and of how to approach Revit -- don't get stuck & obsessed when one way you think of doing something doesn't work. Do it another way.

david.fannon's method would probably also work with your panels as the louvers instead of the mullions as louvers.

Thanks for taking the time out to "record" it for us David!
Now that you've added a solution to this thread it's changed from being a dead-ender to a very helpful piece of information.

    Thanks again.

Would you mind posting an example of this?

This is a fine solution that takes advantage of the fact that you can exchange curtain panels for curtain walls. Basically 3 steps:

    1. Create Louver profile, load into project and associate with custom Mullion Type.
    2. Associate custom Mullion Type with new custom Curtain Wall. In this wall, specify Horizontal separation between the 'Louver Mullion' (in the attached file - the distance is 4") and set Panel Type to 'Empty System Panel:Empty'.
    3. Select any curtain panel and exchange for the custom curtain wall containing defined louver profile.

    See attached.

    Regards -

Thumbs up Re: Parametric louvers in curtain panels?

I missed this thread in the past, but somehow I did use David's approach recently (custom curtainwall with Empty panel and custom mullion profile as louver). Phil, this is a very elegant solution to adding louvers inside a curtain wall and doesn't fall under "workaround"

Just ended up messing around with this today and figured it out using standard family creation methods, although Phil's solution is a nice one.

I have to thank you profusely for this. Your example helped me figure out the one problem with arrays in curtain panel families. David's solution (Phil just restated it, I think) is good for a basic louver panel but not for more complex designs.

While this is adding to a very old post, I have taken what I learned and developed a curtain panel louver based a little off the previous curtain panel louver but with the ability to keep the louvers evenly spaced apart. The formula was the part that was giving me the troubles, and I had to work backwards from the previous family.
