Does anyone have a library of TS steel shapes? I have libraries for almost every other shape - and "I suppose" I could build one - but I'm feeling lazy. Anyone got one they could send?

My suggestion would be to download the (free, I think) Steel Shapes database from AISC and use the values in a type catalog to automatically make this.

    Greg,

I've searched AISC.com for just such a database, but have not found one. If you or anyone else have one I would appreciate you uploading it. I have constructed a family, but need the specifications for the catalog file. If someone can upload the information, I'd be happy to upload the family to share.

Naive...but isn't TS tube steel? Isn't the HSS library what you need?

Yes, Steve, you are correct. Although, there are some shapes that do not overlap the two designations...at the lower and upper ends only as far as I know. I misread the post (or rather assumed it) to mean ST shapes, which are T-shapes cut from S Shapes, or the old I-Beams. I checked the AISC.org site and could not find it, but I know I've got the steel shape database here somewhere. If you did mean ST, not TS, then let me know and I will post the database when I get home tonight.

Here it is...it was in the members only section but does not appear to have a copyright on it, so I'll post it unless this is deemed inappropriate...

Actually guys, I did mean TS (tube steel). I just didn't know that HSS shapes were the same - I've always seen structural notes labelled as TS, not HSS. Thanks, I'll just use the HSS library.

    Problem solved.

Be aware that there is in fact a difference between TS and HSS in areas such as available sections, grades, tolerances, etc. Just make sure you know what you are getting and check out the article titled "Are you spcifying the right materials" in the AISC website. It addresses which grades and designations you should specify for steel projects.

Also, the HSS designation includes pipe sections...which the old TS designation does not.
