    Default Hipped roof question?

Has anyone ever tried to create a hip on gable roof? We have a project that has an existing hip on gable roof system. My initial thought was to create a hipped roof and then create a void form to cut out the hip portion that is not needed.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

well my initial thought was correct. However if someone has a quicker/cleaner solution I would be interested in it.

    Hey Sean

I have attached an example of what you might be looking for. Edit the roof and see what I have done to it. Also do a search in the Revit help file for “slope arrow properties”. But you do not need to use any void forms to achieve this. This should answer all your questions, if not, please do not hesitate to ask.

    Good luck….

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to create a "Dutch" gable roof. A quick and easy way to do this is to make two roofs in the same place. First make your hip roof and then make your gable roof and lastly, use "join geometry" to combine them as one roof.

    Hey Scott

You can also do this within one roof by using your slice and slope arrows tools. You can create 2 roofs if you like but I personally prefer it to be all in one.

    Thanks Matthew

I saw your attached hip/gable roof drawing. Cool stuff! I've only used the directional slope arrow tool a few times in the past. I wasn't aware that it was so versatile. Thanks for the tip.

    Hey Scott

Thanks again for the awesome comment. I’m glad that I could help out with the situation. After being inspired, I posted this question in the tips & tricks. The article is more in depth of how to create a Dutch hip. You can check it out at http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=24497

    Thanks again!!!!

    Matt:

I tried to recreate your process and I keep getting an error message that I can't create the footprint.
