Retaining wall on slope?

I can't figure this one out. I have an existing retaining wall on a sloped site that seems impossible to model correctly. No mater how I adjust the topo lines in AutoCAD, Revit has a hard time dealing with the step in grade from one side of the retaining wall to the other. Very Frustrated - please help!

Can you split the topo so you have two objects? One below and one above?

Steve, that would work, but in this case the retaining wall doesn't completely cut the site. At one end, the wall shrinks to nothing and the grade equals out. Dam! This is a difficult problem to solve.

drop some points at a lower elevation on the top of the wall in the site plan...the topo will drop off real quick...I think there is an example of this sort of thing in the revit tutorials actually.

Scott I agree with Greg. Edit the topo surf and add new points along the wall at the new dorpped elevation height. I have just tested it. It seems when you add the lower level Revit seems to push the upper one back, you then just need to reset the elevation to the upper level and go back over the area as close as possible to the lower one just created.

Shaun, Greg, Steve - Thanks for the tips. I was hoping there was a way to bring in the topo map (retaining wall and all) correctly from AutoCAD without having to tweak it once in Revit. Using Revit to add topo elevation points along the retaining wall works well though. - Thanks.

You can do this in autocad first, but keep in mind that Revit is basically taking the autocad points and interpolating the slope in between. it is pretty basic math and you should end up with the same surface whether you do it by hand or in a computer (more or less). Problem is, Revit does not deal with discontinuities well, so for what you are trying to do, you would have to make sure that the autocad file had a polyline that represented the back and front of the wall at the correct elevations, otherwise, Revit is going to smooth the topo rather than drop it off sharply.

there was a post in the wishlist a while ago asking for solid topo objects and this would be another good place for that request. If the topography was a solid you could simply cut the areas that drop down.
