Default Copy and rename a block

Summary: The ability to copy a block and rename it.

Description: To the ability to copy block and give it different name.

How Used: I would use this ability to copy a block in a drawing and give it a different name. Example: Lets say that you have a fypon head feature for a window or door. You want to Change the appearance of that block. But you don’t want to add it to the library. So you would select copy block and give it a different name. Now you have a child block that is from the parent block. Everything is still the same as the parent block except for the name. Now you can do a block edit and alter that block to show it the way you want it.

    Hi Brad

This is very easy to achieve already, granted it is not a one command solution as per your Wish List Item.

But! never-the-less it is very easy to achieve.

You can use the Rename command to rename a block. But after you rename it, you still have to reinsert the original block again. This way you don't have reinsert the original block. This idea works different from the rename command.

Just curious, with opening a block in the block editor, can't you do a 'save as', which would create a new version of that block without affecting the old? ~feel free to tell me to hush if I'm barking up the wrong tree~

If you are in the block edit mode. You can not do a save as because there is a function still running.

While in the Block Editor there is a toolbar that is on screen. The second icon from the left will allow you to save it as a new block name.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.

i would just copy-paste it into a new drawing, rename it there, and copy-paste it back in (until we upgrade to the latest autocad release).

You could, of course, head over to the Wish List Ballot and vote this your favorite wish
