Default XP, older Autocad, and New codes?

    Hello folks,

I suspect I will be roped into helping an old colleague of mine set up some computers for his "one-man" contract business. He is running an old version of either r.14 or 2000, and he has purchased new workstations to run his other cad software. Despite telling him to go out and buy new AutoCAD software, he has the old software bought and paid for, so he doesn't want to spend any more (he mostly uses 'other' cad products).

Anyways, I have been told that older versions of AutoCAD (2000 or older) require extra "authorization codes" in order to install. Since I probably will be helping him set up these computers, will I have to contact Autodesk first to get these new codes, or have I been given misinformation?

    Thanks,
    ND

    Hi, ND, good question.
I am going to move this from the XP forum, to this one, as I believe it will be better served here (XP forum is for OS-specific questions).
    Thanks, and good luck.

When we installed 2000i a while back, all we needed was the cd key and an authorization (or serial) number, both were on the cd case.

Hope he didn't pay to much.

I have R14 running on XP Pro SP2 - nothing unusual about the install. There is more likely to be a problem if using Win 2k but that's only the old administrator rights problem.

You should be fine, just make sure that you won't need a hardware lock for each machine (or that he already has them if required).

You also need to make sure that he has the correct number of seats for that license if you will be installing on multiple workstations.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.

    Hello again folks,

Well, he still hasn't installed AutoCAD yet, although he has started to consider purchasing the latest version.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help!
