Default Family Changes Not Loading Into Project File

    Maybe someone can help.

I have made a fireplace family (Generic Model floor based) and went back to the family file i made to change some patterns and colors. No problem. Then I reload the fireplace family with the changes into the project where I had already installed the original fireplace. The changes, however, are not, for some reason, loading into the project? All I have is my original fireplace. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? I have deleted the original firepace and reinstalled the new with changes, I have tried loading directly from the family into the project, and other combinations but to no avail. Thanks.

Hi there Zenomail.I had a client with same sort of problem. What I did was make the objects materials into parameters and it changed. If you have created a nested family you need to change the nested components aswell so it will pick up in the project.

Once a material / object style / subcategory has been created in a project, it will not be change by the loading of a family. This is actually important because you may have assigned other objects to that material/subcategory, etc. and may not want them changed by accidentally loading a family that has a diff. setting. So you have to just assign the subcategories in the family, then assign the material to the subcategory in the project. Or as the previous post stated, create material parameters within you family so they are independant of the subcategory. This is byfar the most flexible way.

I was having similar problems of material modifiactions made to an already loaded family not reflecting the changes in the project. Setting materials as parameters solves the problem.

As noted by sbrown - once something is in the prokject - the project standards rule.

This is a fundaemntal concept of Revit and a major portion of the CAD standards management. It is important that everyone on the project teamunderstand this...
