Default 8.1 Window & Door Placement In Create-In Place Wall Component-O

Our office does some interior work. We are often provided base DWG plans from clients of the building. These plans will have many articulations due to exterior decoration and interior existing modifications. Also the base plans tend to be inaccurate and need modification after field measure.

If the Create-In-Place Wall Component was able to accept doors and windows I could then use the C-I-P Wall component for the articulated exteriors and interiors and then easily modify it after field measure is complete. The remaining walls would still be modeled using the wall tool.

The way I do it now is to create a number of wall types, 8 on the last project. I then use Join geometry, uncheck the bound room box sometimes and am "fiddling" with wall ends and connections. It is an issue because with the Join geometry there are these "remnants" of little dots in the wall masses where two or more walls have been joined. In other words its not great ....

If provided this would allow me to say "We will convert ALL DWG base plans to Revit, no exceptions" Now I have to see if the conversion is worth the time or If we use the DWG as a base and just add the walls in the affected area of work which will inevitably beg the question. Why don't we just do these small interior projects in .... AutoCAD! There I said it.

The thing is SOME of the C-I-P walls accept doors and windows and some do not. Hmmmm

Windows and doors do this already. If you encounter some that don't, I would susspect they don't have a parmetric opening that is flexing with the wall thickness.

Thanks Aaron, but no they do not. When the entire exterior of the building was made as a C-I-P wall component I could not install windows or doors in plan. I could install them in 3d view SOME of the time. This was my thread

Same probs (as discussed other treads)....hate it!

They also need to be room bounding

What you might consider is making the walls with the door openings. This should be pretty quick as you can just tab/select all the wall lines which in AutoCAD include the openings. Then you can place non-hosted doors/windows in the project. (If you're following my class ondoors, you'll end up with the parts for either hosted or non-hosted doors.)
