AIA BIM article

I was emailed this article this morning. It is an article in the "AIA this Week" regarding BIM and it's implementation at one firm. This article reflects many of the issues that we have faced in our very small firm. It is a good article.

One thing I would work to change, in my perfect world, is to have the PRINCIPAL more involved in projects using BIM . I will save the soapbox for another time.

Great article. Thanks for sharing. I have printed a copy out to post, where people can finally realize the benefits of BIM.

The sample project (as shown in images) it is done in Revit.
However, not a single mention of the program used. Why?
Or is it that BIM is already a synonym to Revit?

The AIA does not mention software titles or company names. They are very careful within the organization not to seem like they are 'advertising'.

There is a post on the Wish List from peter that begs a questions. Who owns the BIM model? I know who owns the document set per the AIA agreement, but what are the ownership issues with the model. Has anyone or has the AIA studied this?

…and I recall that Autodesk BSD’s Phil Bernstein is on the committee. There is a trend toward more collaboration and less competition.

Excellent article; the observations about changes to the fee structure are significant, especially in the environment where Revit is being put to the test and measured against the perceived profitability of 2D AutoCAD. In Revit there is no equivalent to “hours per sheet”.

I´ll believe this if Revit 9 has proper site tools.
