Default Unable to Purge / Remove Layers from drawing file

We receive plans from one of our clients who have very strict graphic standards. You must use their named layers, blocks etc, to the letter! Their blocks have their layers in them. They use a one drawing one file system. This means you end up with layers anchored in the plans. I've even had multiple layers with the same name (which I didn't think was possible). The worst is that the client won't accept plans with multiple layers and no matter what I do I can't get rid of them! I've tried everything. Exploding the blocks, freezing the layers and going thru' them one by one, checking I don't have invisible objects far off in a corner. In fact with these layers I try to erase "all" but it says the objects weren't in the object space, so I go in the paper space and do the same thing but get the answer that the objects weren't in the paper space either. So where are they? They're not in the blocks as I've remade all the blocks without layers at all.

    Sara:

Check to see if the layers are frozen in a viewport. That would prevent them from being purged.

Have you tried wblocking the drawing and inserting it into a new drawing? Sometimes that helps get rid of mystery stuff...

OK, so here's one of the plans. The problem layers are :
    01_RESERVED_LAYER
    1_RESERVED_LAYER
    02_CADRE_MAQUETTE
    2_CADRE_MAQUETTE

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

02_CADRE_MAQUETTE has the drawing border and the pspace viewport on it.
It will purge after deleting these items.

I can't yet get rid of the others though.

Thanks for trying Dangermouse, it's a real pain isn't it? If I erase everything then I can purge all the layers, so the problem is in the lines logically.

The following is some of the things that I have discovered.

    Layer: 01_RESERVED_LAYER
    Contains:
    1 - Hatch
    1 - Block

    Blocks that contain layer: 01_RESERVED_LAYER
    SIEGE

    Layer: 1_RESERVED_LAYER
Did not find any entities containing this layer.

    Blocks that contain layer: 1_RESERVED_LAYER
    MONEO_CONIQUE
    PLV-130S

    Layer: 2_CADRE_MAQUETTE
    Contains:
    7 - Point

    Blocks that contain layer 2_CADRE_MAQUETTE
    DRA-7P
    P-60C07
    TOTEM-P

Have you tried the Express Tools Layer Merge command. This should allow you to merge the problem layers to a more standard layer.

~edit~ ignore that Express Tool comment. I just realized you were in LT.

If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.

    Hi

Please refer to the attached drawing file...

I have moved a few Objects that were on the Layers you want to Purge, onto Layer "_TidyUp".

Block "PLV-130S" contains Objects on Layer "1_RESERVED_LAYER".

Block "P-60C07" contains Objects on Layer "2_CADRE_MAQUETTE".

Personally I would look at recreating all! the Blocks that are used in the drawing file ( but that is just me ).

    Have a good one, Mike
