Tables in 2k6 should be able to do what you want, otherwise you'll have to write a LISP routine or use Excel.

Are you using straight AutoCAD or one of the Veritical Packages (ADT or Building Systems)?
Using spaces in ADT, you could develop a Property Set Definition that holds the occupancy rate from the code and then calculates the occupancy load based on that rate and the area of the space. You could either have the occupancy field be set using the space properties extended data, or as a style based property with a library of preset space styles. You could then create a schedule that displays the space, occupancy rate/and or type, and occupant load.
If you do take the information into Excel, you still have to find a way to specify the occupancy type. This would include pulling the area and space name into a given Excel form in a given location, going through and specifying the occupancy type, and then having a lookup table built in Excel to give you the occupancy load.
The property set definition solution allows you to keep it all in one software. The library of space styles could simply be one for each occupancy you use or is defined by the building code.
