    Default Interior rendering

    My first post for JASMAX.

This is not MY work, I only train/support the really important people

The following are examples of some of our current work. Modelled in Revit, Rendered in VIZ / MAX, maybe a little bit of 'shop' thrown in too.

It would be good to get some feedback

    Simon

    Hi there.

So what are these areas intended for? Are they within an office, or bar / hotel? Nice designs nevertheless.

In terms of rendering, the thing that strikes me is they don't feel solid enough. It just doesn't quite feel like you can reach in and touch anything. I think its to do with the floor texture, which has the effect of making everything look like it's floating. Also, some more detail, cups, flowers etc would be nice just to liven them up a bit. Its funny, because so much of the images are really very good (lighting, materials, modeling) , just needs something to tie it all together. Can't quite put my finger on it!

    Max.

    Thanks for your comments Max,
This project is an office fit out, which is based around a corporate image. There was a deliberate policy of less clutter for this set of images.
We have recently been in the process of implementing Revit, and we use VIZ / MAX for rendering.

Do you have the latest version of Viz? For using Mental Ray for interior shots can add a great deal of 'depth' to them, make them look really nice. If you're willing to get into Mental Ray, that is. Vray has a free plugin that's pretty keen too that would give you nice results.

I think part of the 'flatness' here is that you're not using any radiosity or a 'GI' rendering engine (if you are, sorry, I'm just guessing from how the images look). One of the really great things about using Viz over rendering in Revit alone is that you've got easy access to these better rendering engines, so why not take advantage of them? Radiosity in Viz is way better than in Revit alone. Interior shots seem to get the most benifit from using GI of some kind, it could go a long ways for your interior shots here...
