Default Control line weights w/ parameter?

Is there a way to be able to control the lineweights of a detail component family with either a type or instance parameter? I know I can create a line type in the family and then change its lineweight in object styles in the project, but obviously that's going to act like a type parameter, and it also loads another line type whenever that family is loaded. I would like the option of controlling the line weight of the family by instance if needed, or by using line types already loaded in the project. Possible?

If it's global control you're after then you can do this with symbolic lines for each display resolution (coarse, medium, fine).

The only other way I can think of is to create different sets of symbolic lines with yes/no parameters set to control visibility. What is the intended use for this?

Well in some detail views I might use differing line weights for objects that are cut, objects not cut but close to the cut plane, or objects in beyond. So I have a detail component family for the elevation of a brick or block (used to show brick/block in beyond in window and door details mainly). Sometimes I might want the line weight of that block to be 3 if it's closer to the cut plane, or other times a 2 or 1 if it's in beyond.

That you'll need to do with visibility control.
If controling lots of lines is too troublesome: Make 3-4 copies as needed of the family. Edit each one with the look you want. Nest them all in one host family and turn them on/off as needed for the different types. Might speed your setup.
