Roofs, Windows and the Cut Plane (was 2 things bugging me...)

I have two things bugging me right now in Revit.

1. I would like the 1st floor roof to show on the 2nd floor plan without it being cut by the cut plane. Is that possible?

2. I would like all the windows to show even if the cut plane doesn't go thru it. I have some transom windows up high on the first floor and they are only 1' tall so they don't show yp on the 1st floor plan.

1. Check out the View Range under view properties. For and explanation of the terms click on the HELP button.

2. Plan regions allow a different view range than the primary one set for the rest of the view. If you use transom windows alot you can also modify the family with an invisible line that would be intersected by the cut plane so it shows up in any plan view. Third alternative for this one is to use the linework tool and just draw the transom window locations in as dashed lines over.

I have tried the invisible line trick and got nowhere? Is there a tutorial for that somewhere?

I've attached a sample of what needs to be done. The trick is to use an invisible model line and lock it to the ref level for the window. (Check the window family and look for the line on the exterior side centered on the window below the sill)You might have to do some tweaking of the symbolic lines that are used to represent the window in plan.

Thanks for that sample. I believe I was drawing that line to the extrusion rather than the ref. plane. I keep forgetting to use those darn ref. planes.

This will save us a bunch of time. We are always having to use plan regions and I don't like their behavoir most of the time. Not to mention the lag time with choosing the command in the first place and then exiting out of it.

Actually, this doesn't work as we need. We need the window to show cut. Our walls have fills in them and this method is only giving us the symbolic lines, but not the plan cut like what a plan region will provide.
