Auto Adjusting Closet Door & Coat Rod

Anyone know how to create a family parameter that adjusts automatically instead of by instance.

I have closets of varying sizes and it would be nice to have a coat rod that adjusts automatically to the width of a closet.

Additionally, I'd like a sliding closet door to adjust to the same closet width.

This would eliminate the neet to edit the length of each these family instances.

Any ideas?

Read up on nested families.

Create the door and the rod as separate families and then nest them in the parent family, passing the parameters for the robe length, door opening to the parent family.

I don't see the possibility of making them adjust automatically, but you might take a look at how some other instance-adjustable families are constructed. (I'm thinking of countertops, plywood segments, curbs, etc.) Instead of assigning the length parametrically, you'll use the align tool to adjust the edges to other reference planes.

You could make a type catalogue of the closet sizes you want, and add your doors and rod as parametric elements in the family, locked to the closet length.
