Manual AEC Dims??? Whats the point?

I've just started using AEC dimensions in ADT2006, they are a big imrovement compared to last time I dabbled with them.

A massive benefit for us is, due to new regs certain wall thicknesses have needed to increase, and by changing the wall style, the walls are globally updated as are any attached AEC dims. This is great and avoids mistakes like forgetting move a standard dimension to the correct place etc.

But I am really strugling to see a use for manual AEC dims. If they are manual and not attached what is the difference between them and standard Acad dims.

I'm guessing there must be something otherwise otherwise why do they exist? Any ideas???

The only thing I can think of off the bat, is that they are still linked to the "drawing scale" and the "display config", but don't quote me on that.

I actually prefer that to what the borg say. nice little twist, especially since the vogons are useless...
