Default Image Transparency, make a Solid Hatch transparent?

    Hi All
    Using 2004,
need to show a solid hatch area beneath a .jpg image and have the image to be transparent.
I've attempted with the transparent command "on" and also "paletteopaque" "1" neither seem to make a difference, and sending solid to front and back.

So is it possible to make a solid hatch transparent?

    thanks
    john

try using a somewhat dense dot hatch pattern. that gaps between the dots will make it see through.
