Detail component - self cutting window section

I'm sure I am doing something extremely silly here. The idea is that when I manually draft a wall section I would like to be able to adjust this self cutting "window section" to suit. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Dick, it appears you've created your family in a future version of Revit that does not exist yet However, if I had to guess, I'd say take a look at the upper witness line of your dimension and make sure it is referencing the reference plane, and not a detail line.
