Question Is there a way to for Revit to calculate the number of studs in a given wall

Hi, I was wondering if Revit could tell me the amount of studs, insulation etc in any given wall and if yes is it very complicated to get the information?
    Thank you

Pretty simple to get the number of studs...

In a wall schedule, calculated value parameter ...
    Stud No = Length / 450 ( Type Integer )

Similarly, area of insulation is approximately the wall area.

With all due respect to Beegee, if you drakir are working in the US the answer is NO. You cannot determine a meaningful estimate of number of stud faming members required based solely on a linear footage of wall. This was discussed in detail in January on the "Can it do this" thread.

Studs come in more than one length, it is more than the O.C. of studs that must be considered, evaporation, etc. Talk to your carpenter or your lumber supply house and ask them how they do take offs. Obtain a copy of "Graphic Guide to Frame Construction" Rob Thallon, Fine Homebuilding Book. Armed with this information you can then, with or without Revit, make a realistic material list.

If drakir only wants a basic number rather than a full take off, he can get that easily. Enough for some basic estimating anyway. Revit currently doesn't give the detail / accuracy required for a bill of quantities.

It might be simpler to calculate the value by dividing with the average O.C. and then add a percentage. Our wall types show studs at 10" O.C. in building corners for 10'-0". And then you're going to find wall sections where you cannot fit an exact number of studs uing the 16" multiple etc.....so you have to add that "fudge" factor. And, needless to say, you need to make sure you're using the right gauge stud, and the right spacing.

Back in my college days when I worked for the local lumber yard we estimated 16" O.C. stud walls at:

1.0 studs per LF Interior Walls
1.1 studs per LF Exterior Walls

I realize that this is a late entry in this thread but, has anyone taken into consideration when you have a wall that projects up 2 or 3 stories? How would you go about calculating the number of studs in this wall? Yes, you could multiply the number of studs by 2 or 3 but how do you sort and distinguish these walls from others in your wall takeoff schedule?

    Thanks,

you could sort your schedule by level, so that each set of walls from each level were grouped together and calucalted separately (if your walls are drawn from level to level) and grand totals would be calc's at the bottom of the schedule.

I am using a takeoff schedule and there isn't a level parameter to sort by, that is the problem I am running into.
