Processor fan needs replacement

One of my processor fans is causing me problems.
It needs to be jump started to work by me manually pushing the fan.
It’s causing my system to slow down and needs to be replaced.
It’s a 603-pin Xeon 2.2 GHZ 400 MHZ chip.
Do I need to replace just the fan or is it some sort of kit I need to get which would include a heat sink as well?
I’m wondering how difficult this would be to do myself or should I get a pro?
Any recommendations as to where I can get this fan replacement?

You could remove the fan (after turning off the computer) and take it to a computer shop, which should have a replacement.

Piece of Cake to fix! Do it yourself but get the right part! I have been around computers since the days of the Atari 400 . No I am not that old just had an interest in seeing how things worked and my Dad did computers and electronics! Anyway, take the fan off of the heatsink via the screws or latch bar and take it to a local computer store. They are size specific and attachment method specific! Then go back to your office and replace.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE GROUNDED AT ALL TIMES!!!!

We have Circuit City, Best Buy, Office Max and Depot, etc, etc! We also have smaller and independent stores like BBS, Burroughs, Geared, etc. that are small businesses and it typically were you will get the best deal. (Better customer service too IMHO)

Yikes! Sounds like the PS might have caused the problems with the fans. I hope you replaced the power supply with something on the level of an Antec or better...

The cpu fan just quit period and I do not know what was up with the case fan but I did get suspicious of the ps so I went and swapped it out with a 400watt version that was one notch down from Antec since I could not afford the Antec at the time. (small office and smaller budget)

Well - How did it go? Did you replace it yet?

A friend of mine told me if the fan isn't making noise, than it's just unbalanced from the dirt. So I cleaned it with a Q tip and some solvent and it's working fine now.
