Default Complete slow down of CAD

    Acad 2004

I am working on drawings with two or more x-refs in (for a bit of back ground)

The problem is when selecting items to edit/move etc.

If the item is sellected directly or edited using hot grips then all is well.

If a window selection is used then it can take an age, probably only a minute max to give me my first pick point and the same again for the second.

I have looked at the task manager and ram and processor are not maxin' out.

Has anybody come accoss this before?

    Many ThanX

    Hi

What is the system variable XLoadCtl set to -

Options -> Open and Save tab -> Demand load Xrefs drop-down box (Middle, Right hand-side)

If it's not "Enabled with Copy" try setting it to that.

Check out the following Technical Documents on the Autodesk web site under the Knowledge Base section -

    Thanks mike

It looks like it is a combination of several of your hints.

The moss model has produced alot of points so that will slow things down.

The main culprit seems to be that some one at a point way back in time hase used the Arial font and the fix of replacing the dswhip.dll file has significantly sped up the process.

At some point I will need to remove all references to the Arial font as from distant recolection its very memory intesive ( unless anybody want to disagree and save me the tedium of this task)

    Regards

    Richard

Wink Re: Complete slow down of CAD

I agree on the Arial font issue.
I try to avoid any true-type font and stick to the AutoCAD shipped fonts.
Generally use ROMANS where I can. To get variations I change things like "oblique angle", etc.
Had lots of problems in past of TT fonts being very memory hungry!

Question Re: Complete slow down of CAD

well i have had a problem that is similar and i was wondering if it has to do with the true text. i ran into this problem like a week ago on a new drawing i copy in some text from a word document into mtext and when ever i went to scale or select or move the text it would slow down. so went to change the font ikt was brought in as time new roman from word and so i changed it to city blue print-(comes with cad) but i did not notice any improvment. is this related?

    Hi

As far as I'm aware CityBluePrint does not ship with Core AutoCAD.

As far as I'm aware CityBluePrint is a standard Windows True-Type Font.

Try changing any Text that uses True-Type Fonts to native AutoCAD Fonts (.SHX) and see it that helps.

I realize this is an old thread, but the first time I had ever heard of the CityBluePrint and CountryBluePrint fonts was on a machine with Core AutoCAD. It was an SHX file at that time.
