    Is it possible to edit an object in one viewport and not have the edit change another viewport?

    No. If you change an object it changes, regardless of what viewport it looking at it. You might make a copy of the entity and place a copy on a different layer, then you VPLAYER command to freeze a layer in a viewport.

    A viewport is simply a window to your objects in model space. Just because you have two viewports showing the same thing, it doesn't mean you have two things drawn, you still just have that one item in model space. If it changes, it changes everywhere it is displayed.
