    Question ADT startup problem

ADT 2006 has decided not to start up. The program will hang when it comes to "Loading AEC Detail Base .... Regenerating Model....." It also says on the bottom of the screen that it is loading the company template file. Nothing happens at this point. It will sit like this forever.

    Any help would be appreciated.

This may not help at all, but sometimes when ADT gets confused, you can use this little trick.
Right at start up, hit the esc key about 30 times. Doing this can "Cancel" what ever command is running. Hence stopping what ever problem ADT was having when trying load either a corrupt file or trying to find a file that isn't there. Also works if you have a huge file that crashes on Regen.
I know this doesn't fix the problem, but it might get you up and running.
    Hope this helps.

Hitting the escape key didn't work. Is there a way I can load ADT without any blank drawings? Maybe I should just reinstall. That is probably what tech support will say anyway.

I don't think you can do that with out changing some option settings, and you can't easily do that without getting into ADT so....
But you could just try to do a registry repair. I'd try that first.

Can you start ADT by double clicking a known good ADT drawing?

    Yep you can.
When you double click the drawing, the extension manager of windows will search for the last program that opened this type of extension and will use the same to open that extension.

Another solution maybe to change the properties in the startup of the ADT (delete/change the template to be loaded). Right click on the icon on your desktop and choose properties. Change the target to: " "C:\Program Files\Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2006\acad.exe" /ld "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AecBase47.dbx" /p "Architectural Desktop - Metric" ".

I had this problem and a hard shut down and restart of Windows resolved it.

I just had a startup problem this morning. I narrowed it down to a AutoCAD profile problem. I could get me PLAIN Autocad profile to load, but not my ADT profile. I couldn't even SET my ADT profile current after ACAD loaded -- the AEC apps would not load.

Use the following at your own risk........

I deleted all files and folders at the following location (where the profiles are stored):

    C:\Documents and Settings\<<your username>>\Application Data\Autodesk\ADT 2006\enu\Support\Profiles

    Launch ADT as normal...........

I lost all my GROUPS for my palettes, but my Workspace was retained.

    Good Luck.

A hard restart of the computer helped the first time I ran ADT. But subsequent times it went back to locking up during startup.
This is how I solved it: I restarted the computer again, then removed any mention of profiles in the windows registry and any local arg files. Opened up ADT with the default shortcut. Created a new profile from scratch and set it current. ADT is now working very well again.

Somehow I think the profiles got corrupted. I have backup copies of the company profile file, but removing the corrupted profile and placing a fresh copy in the directory did not work.
