Edit Cut Profile

Hi,
I am making some concrete wall sections and need to add a key to the base of the wall. I thought using the Edit Cut Profile would be a good idea, but I'll be draned if I can figure out how to use it.

1. I choose boundry between faces (i.e. the wall and the footing) which puts me in sketch mode

2. I draw the 3 key lines from that boundry (no lines allowed on the boundry)

3. Then finish sketch......the line between the wall and footing is still there?!?!?!

Anybody got any ideas. I find absolutely nothing in the help sections on this command and I did a number of searches.

If that methods is too much of a hassle, what should we do to provide the keys in the section?

For this you are best off using a detail component.

The filled region of the detail can hide the edge between the footing and foundation. You can also make the key so it is parametric and you'll be able to tag it with a keynote. You can't keynote cut profiles.

Alternately, you could add a sweep to the wall. This is additional 3D overhead, but they you get a key anywhere you cut a section.

The cut profile is just tool finicky.

I used Edit Cut Profile and got it to work fine. When choosing the boundary between faces, I made sure I selected the top of footing as the profile to be modified. I sketched the key, finished the sketch, and got the key in the footing. That left a line at the bottom of the wall. I got rid of it by using the linework tool with the <invisible> line style.

I was able to duplicate it your way. It seems that picking the footing works, but picking the wall does not work. As Aaron says it seems this function is a little but funky!

You can pick the wall, but you need to run the profile all the way around the footing to get the same result - and you would still have to turn off the line that's left from the footing.

Aaron's detail component idea sounds like a good idea, especially if you have a lot of these to do.

Actually I was trying Aaron's example with RST3 and for some reason could not get the filled concrete region to cover the line. Don't know why...it works with solid fills. I could do it in RST2 OK. That's a real good way to do it.

I just used the cut profile on the footing as stated above and it worked fine. To get rid of the line I did another cut profile to the base of the wall to expand it into the key. This also worked. This way the linework tool and filled region does not have to be used.
