I am trying to insert shape files in AutoCAD 2005. I use the "load" command, but it does not work. It only lets me insert the .shp file and not the .shx file. Can somebody tell me how to insert these files?
Thanks,
Shane

The LOAD command only accepts .SHX files. What makes you think it will only let you insert the .shp file?Originally Posted by shogan.112070
After you get the .SHX file loaded, you should use the SHAPE command to insert the individual shapes.

Hi Shane
Please note I have *moved* this thread from the CAD Standards forum to this one, as I feel this particular forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

After re-reading your original post, I have a feeling that you are trying to insert ESRI Shape Files [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESRI_shapefiles ], not AutoCAD Shape Files.Originally Posted by shogan.112070
In that case, you need AutoCAD Map. On the Map menu, go down to Tools, Import.

If you don't have Map, you will have to have your ESRI person export a DXF for you.

Actually I wrote it wrong. When I am prompted at the "load" command it is looking for the .shx file. In the folder that the .shx files are in there are also .shp files. I usually use Acad Map for these shape files but it is on another computer and it is a pain in the rear. I was under the impression that I could do this in 2005.
So you are trying to insert ESRI Shape Files....Originally Posted by shogan.112070
Plain AutoCAD cannot do this. The LOAD command is for loading AutoCAD Shape Files, which are totally different and have nothing to do with ESRI Shape Files.
