I thought I would post this screenshot of a weird occurrence.
See the attached file that shows the drawing
background as grey even though I have it set to black.
Go figure. I have one drawing file that I know of that does this.

Are you using views??
To check if you are fire up the view manager by typing "_view" at the command prompt and then check your background override settings. (See attached image)
I'm pretty sure this is a new feature of AutoCad 2007,and is total independent to the background color you set in the options dialog box.

Did your Visual Style get changed? Try View->Visual Styles->2D Wireframe.
I haven't yet figured out how colors in 3D are configured (I haven't looked).
Try using your "background" command and also check "shademode" to ensure your using 2d wire frame as richards has sugested.
