    Exclamation Square Hollow Sections (UK)

    Morning All,

Forgive me if this is a really silly question, as a newcomer to Revit starting on RST3. I have gone into place a SHS from the UK steel .rvt files and the SHS's are listed by external dimensions only (i.e. SHS100x100) rather than external dimensions and then a wall thickness. This is not only making it a pain to find the correct size to pull into my model, but it is also screwing up my member tags as once again it disregards the wall thickness of the SHS, which is causing great confusion.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Cheers

    Nick B

    Hi Nick,

If you go to the folder where the family is located, there is a .txt file with the same name.
When you open the text file, you will see a list of all the sections in that family.

You are correct in that the web thickness is missing from the name (thank you for pointing that out) and I would also find it difficult to load certain sections with the current setup.

Here is what you can do, edit the type name (the first part of every line) to include the web thickness (which is listed at the end of the line) i.e. change 40x40SHS to 40x40x2.5SHS
or however the designation should be.

Save the file, and the next time you load the sections, the Type Catalog will show the updated Types.

I have attached a .jpg for clarification. Hope this helps.

CSC are working with Revit to enable links with our Fastrak Building Designer product and we pointed these and several other issues some time ago. They did provide some updated UK and Euro content for us but I am not sure if this made the release CD. Look for folders under the "Structural International Extra" in the Metric Library folder.

Unfortunately if you start changing any designations, then you may have problems exporting to any external program that uses some form of conversion to determine its own section reference.

    David,

That is a very good point (that I forgot to mention!)
    Thanks for pointing that out.
