Post Write protection of a file

A file which my colleague is working on is getting automatically write-protected after some random periodic amounts of time and the system variable 'WRITESTAT' is automatically getting converted to '0' (read only status)

What may be the probable cause and what is the remedy for that?

WRITESTAT is "read only" and you can not change value with LISP.

    I suppose computer memory overflow.

    : ) Happy Computing !

    Hi

Is it only one particular drawing file that exhibits the above behaviour ?

And does it only occur when your colleague is using the drawing file ?

    Have a good one, Mike

I am having the same issue. It happens on many different jobs, and from a variety of templates. I cannot find a pattern yet. It started happening to me when we went from 2011 to 2012.

I noticed the OP said they were using 2006. I had assumed it was the new version that caused this, but now it seems it may not be.

In recent months we have been using a lot more Tool Palettes. Is it possible that this can cause it?

Has anyone else ever experienced this? It happens to me about 5 times each week.

I save often and it is strange because all of a sudden the file will simply not allow it to be saved saying, "Write Protected". It is slow to workaround.

Are your files on a server? I've found some hangups with Win2008 ... in that it sometimes releases the file you've got open (after a hour or so) ... then lets someone else open it without them knowing you have it open. Then when you try to save it, you get the message that it's write protected.

Unfortunately there's not much you can do about such a situation. Swapping to a Domain Server sort-of-alleviated the problem ... it seemeds to happen less often. And since we've reverted back to a Linux file server with only the domain coming from Win2008 it hasn't happened again

Of course the old problem still happens when (and NOT if) acad crashes ... it generally "forgets" to close the DWGs. Thus just after a crash all the DWGs you had open is still open ... by yourself! ... thus they're write-locked! In such case you can release the file-lock on the server ... but that's usually your admin guy's domain!

The files are on a server, but there is only one other AutoCAD in our office and their desk is right next to mine. I know that they are not accessing my files.

I had not considered that it could be a Windows thing and not a CAD issue. However, I have never experienced it except in AutoCAD and even then only in 2012.
