Question Autodesk Map 3D 2007/ArcSDE 9.1/SQL Server connectivity

I have new installs of Autodesk Map 3D 2007 with SP1, and Autodesk Civil 3D 2007. We also run ArcSDE 9.1 with SQL Server 2000. I have incorporated the three *91.dll's needed in the FDO/bin folders and still can't connect. I have been communicating with Autodesk through my Subscription and still don't have an answer. Anyone have a solution?

Yes this is the right forum for that question, but I don't think anyone can give an answer to the question. Unless YBH knows of a source. Still too new of a feature for anyone to get a handle on it.

    Wanderer,

You are missing out if you don't upgrade your computer and install 2007. It is far superior to 2006 and to any previous version. Its really going to rock when I get the ArcSDE/SQL Server app running.

    Best regards,
    Mitzi

Unhappy Re: Autodesk Map 3D 2007/ArcSDE 9.1/SQL Server connectivity

i'm trying to... hardware upgrades not available in the dept budget, so I padded a project budget, but, more than the usual went wrong and took up the extra $$ from that so I might have missed my chance ~sniff~

What box are you actually running? I've used 2007 on a range of PCs, as have several here. Maybe we can figure out the most important upgrades and get you going.

In some ways, the Map 2007 changes aren't there yet. Performance needs help on some data connections (experience speaks: connect to individual shape files, not to a folder with many). The "transparency" theming being on-screen only is disappointing, though I almost get the feeling that the Map team were caught by surprise with that. And Melanie, if you use the Civil 3D functions of Map 3D 2006 you will not be happy (I sure wasn't) - they're gone in 2007. Nobody's ever given me a satisfactory reason for that - it must have come from marketing.

That said, 2007 is FAR better than 2006 for actual GIS activities. Its almost like having ArcMap running on top of AutoCAD. They even paid attention to some of ESRI's UI goofs, and did them better. The Map devel team did an incredible thing getting this far in a year, and I know at next release we'll be floored again.

BTW, "on top of AutoCAD" is the way to think of Mako. I even came up with a term "Makospace" (if you hear it from Ivan, he got it from me) to describe the odd interaction, and what will and won't work. You can see objects in makospace and modelspace at the same time. They even interact visually, but somehow Mako can't mess with AutoCAD objects, and vice versa.

Talking Re: Autodesk Map 3D 2007/ArcSDE 9.1/SQL Server connectivity

it will handle it no problem... it's 4x the pc that this poj is. Here, I've just got a 'standard' IBM 512 ram, stock video card have no idea what it is... P4 processor (1.8ghz) this thing didn't even come with a dvd drive, had to order that separately. I don't really do much GIS specific as I work in Facilities Management... I heard about the civil functions being gone, but, don't believe that will affect my work too much.
