    Question Template transitions help needed

    Hello,
I need some help on creating a template for use on a job. We are adding left and right turn lanes to a four lane divided highway. We are required to follow the existing centerline for when the project was originally built. I have attached a dwf file to help explain what I need them to do. I have tried to use the superimposed profile but may be missing something. I you have any further questions you may email me directly or answer this post. Thank you in advance for your help.

I think what you are wanting to do is actually use a transition instead of multiple alignments.

define a different template for each different scenario and assign them to the different stations and use transitions in between them.

For example. Use one template for the road without turn lanes, use a different template for the situation with both turn lanes on the one side of the center line, and use a different template for the left had turn lane on the other side of the center line. Assign a transition where the road changes and don't assign a template for the stations in the intersection.

    Ammon,
I am making multiple templates, one for the east bound left turn lane, one for where the right turn west bound shows and one for where you would see both the left and right turn lanes west bound. (I didn't draw my schematic exactly correct). If you look at the attachment I included the problem I am having is that the "centerline" which is my alignmnent is to the left of where the East bound left turn lane starts, but my "match point" or connection point is on the right side of my template that needs to follow the left edge of the East bound lanes. I am using the "transition point on the template to make the lane width and shoulder follow the tapers where the lane starts. I can add to the attachment if I need to to clear some things up.

    Thanks for the reply,
    Daryl

Is there a reason why you cannot make the CL for the alignments the actual match point? in that situation i would draw a polyline on the exact spot i would be matching in to the existing bit, make it into an alignment, edit the vertical alignment and copy the existing vertices to the proposed. Then you just have to push your templates through. Does that make sense?
