The audit command trys to fix "Corrupt" data. Audit can make a file better, or make it worse depending on what happend to it. I'm not a programmer so I can't give you specifics, but I know it's not a bad thing.

When a project or a drawing is audited, the styles and display settings in the project drawing are compared with those of the project standards, and any out-of-synch standards will be reported.

Out-of-synch standards can appear in these cases:

A style or display setting in a project drawing has changed and needs to be updated with the correct version from the project standards.
A style or display setting in the project standards has changed and needs to be updated in the project drawings.
Not standardized styles and display settings have been introduced in a project drawing.
You could for example run an audit on drawings that come from contractors, or from other outside sources. Before you synchronize the drawings with the project standards, you first want to look at what actually is different between the drawings and the standards.

The fixing drawings audit. Our standards arent far enough along to try and match drawings yet. I know Ive run it, and its come back with some fixed errors before, I was just curious what exactly it is that is being fixed.

Have you ever used the LIST command to check out various properties on an object in a dwg? Have you noticed how every one has something called a "handle"? That's one of the things audit checks is to make all objects handles are in the proper location and associated correctly. Another thing is it looks to check on blocks or items that have been copy/pasted from one drawing to another.
