    Thumbs up "Curve"-Based Families

You'd like one of those, wouldn't ya?

Well, I'm happy to post this experimental version...not used for anything specific, but it's potential application is only limited by your imagination! What prompted me to do this was the need for a "fire tape" along curved walls and the need for a generic model "curve" based family to model canopies (curved in plan) on the fly.

First, I had to get my math straight, then I had to go through the hurdles of parametric radial arrays (thanks to all AUGI members that helped out with that portion). At least I remembered the crucial trigonometric concepts to work out all the formulas I needed, which are essential for this

In the posted example, the family works very much like when drawing a curve....you click the start and end and then click the middle of the curve. Using this family, you don't click the third point. You just stretch the center up and down using the draggable handles. The array adjusts accordingly and is dependent on the "Maximum Span" parameter. The Maximum Span is the arc length between two arrayed members. The parameter "T" is the perpendicular distance between the line defined by the start and end point and the middle of the "curve". You're basically varying this parameter by dragging the arrows/handle at the middle of the curve. Or you can choose to type it in the properties window.

Hope you find use for this concept and feel free to adapt for your use. I know I'm thrilled

Sounds great! Can't wait to play with it tomorrow. Thanks!

Indeed, we all bow down to the recently annointed "Count (formula)"

This is not working on non-Detail families for me. Does anyone have a Generic model (or some other non-detail) parametric radial array sample?

Nevermind... I got it... I had changed my generic family to workplane based at some point, after I changed it back all worked great with parametric flute representation on my columns.

    Very nicley done,
Wonder if we can use this to do the Arched soldier Coursing.

    Thank you for the post.
