Angry Getting a Summasketches digitizer to work in AutoCAD 2000

I do some part time work for a local pool company. I work for my old high school professor who has been working with his digitizers for 20+ years. He has 2 Summasketch III tablets and a few others, but its the Summasketches I'm trying to work with.
He currently uses AutoCAD 13 with his digitizers, and has the AutoCAD Template (the overlay for the tablet itself) which has the 3 pre-programmed menu areas and 1 area for custom buttons (macros he has written) as well as the defined screen area.
The tablets work fine with no outside drivers (no tabletworks) in AutoCAD 13. But, without the TabletWorks software, AutoCAD 2000won't recognize it. I downloaded the TabletWorks software, restarted, opened 2000, selected the WinTab compliant pointer device, and tried to configure the menu areas. Nothing. It doesn't recognize the defined window area, or any of the template commands on the tablet.
I'm stumped. I'm assuming the template commands for the tablet might need to be loaded into the acad.mnu file like the macros, but AutoCAD can't even recognize the defined window area, it still sees the entire tablet as the screen area.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi jlapier,

Make sure to read THIS, and verify that the driver that you are using is Wintab compatible. It looks like you need GTCO CalComp TabletWorks Version 10.0.

Thanks. I have been through their site many times over and that is the version (10.0) that I have. They are not very forthcoming with support for their older products.
    Thanks for trying though.

Have you tried selecting "Mouse and Digitizer" in Options?

Also, have you typed TABLET at the command line then CFG, and set up the tablet menu areas and screen pointing areas?

Edit: from your original post, it looks like you did this, but, I want to verify that you went through CFG instead of CAL, though.

On another note, I use Virtual Tablet, and I haven't had any problems with it, and it supports 12x12 and 12x18 Summasketch III's.
