Tool Palette images keep vanishing

Using acad 2007 (6 seats) on a network. For convenience and sanity I decided to put all our custom tool palettes on the server, and change everyone's options to look there for the palettes. This has worked well for a few months, however, now there is a problem. the tool images keep disappearing from the palettes - to be replaced with a white square. The tools still work. The pairs of images are still in the appropriate directory on the server, and if you right click on the tool image you have the option to refresh the tool image, which works,,,, for a while (until restart i think/suspect). Does anyone have any idea as to what may be causing this?

Question: Do all 6 users have full permissions to the network location in which the tool palettes are stored?

I am having the same problem. some of these tools are coming from "stock" tools. I do have full permission to the network location.

yes everyone has full permissions.

Then you realize that each time a user closes AutoCAD - "his" tool palettes are written to disk. Last one out wins.

ahhh. that makes sense, well makes sense of the 'infectious' nature of the problem leastways. I'll tr4y giving read only access to the palette directory to everyone but me, and then go throught the tedious task of 'update tool image' again. thanks for the help
