Switch to Classic 2D interface

Hi all,

I've been handed a laptop for a demo presentation. Everything is done in 2D. When AutoCAD opens it defaults to the 3D modeling setting. There was a time when I remembered how to change that...today is not the time. When I attempt to open a new drawing, showing off my cool templates, it jumps to 3D modeling mode. How do I set the darn thing for 2D and get it to stay? This all works very nicely on my desktop 'puter.

Tools > Workspaces> Classic.

Tried that and it still stays in the 3D modeling mode.

I think I'm trying to find the solution a similar same situation.Unfortunately the PDF above isn't it either.

I discovered the problem via Tools-->Options -->Display Tab

Click "Colors" in the "Window Elements" section.

The "Drawing Window Colors" dialog pops up. 2D Model Space and 3Dwhatever have different background colors. This is how I can tell it's not launching in 2D mode/context/interface/classic, whatever the undocumented terminology is.

Just to be clear, this is not about choosing a background color, that's only an indicator. I need to be able to test AutoCAD 2007 in 2D mode on existing drawings before I can make the decision whether to proceed with upgrading all our machines.

right click your icon and change the properties for the target to ...\acad.exe" /w "myworkspacename"

type in "CUI"
top left under "ACAD" is "Workspaces"
Right-click the one you want as default and select "Set Default".

It doesn't matter what workspace settings you do, if you open a drawing saved in 3D mode, you come up in 3D mode. Set your default template to a 2D version.
