WBLOCK = huge file?

I have a CAD file with a bunch of custom casework details. The file size is around 4 MB. I selected only one of those details, used the WBLOCK command to save only those objects, but the new file ended up being around 2 MB, even after I used the PURGE command. There are no Xrefs or images in the file. Is there anything else that could be hidden somewhere and eating up space?

I was hoping to be able to attach the file but it's too large, 2.85 MB according to AUGI.

One possibility would be hidden entities. What I've done in the past is:

Type ERASE
type A for "ALL'
type R for 'REMOVE'
type w for 'Window'
window the block you would like to keep.

Then try to run purge again to see if it cleans it up.

nope, file is still 2,905 KB, and there are only 165 objects in the whole file (according to when I pulled the window around them). It's only a small elevation.

what happens if you explode the blocks? Are they simple, with only a few entities, or complicated?

One major space eater is Reg Apps, you can usually get around them by W blocking but you could check that anyway. Just run a -PURGE command, select R for regapps, * for all, and NO to verify names. I have been beating the Reg App drum for a while but this issue always comes up. see attached PIC....that was from one DWG file... just takes up space....

hmmm when I type "-purge" it doesn't list Regapps as an option.

If you wish to attach a DWG file larger than 2 MB, first place it in a ZIP file, then attach the ZIP file.

What version of AutoCAD are you using ?

We're actually running ADT 2004. I looked in layer manager but it doesn't show any layer filters. I'm going to e-mail the file shortly, which even zipped up is still 2,500 KB.

I just copy-clipped and pasted the drawing to a new file, and it was only 347 KB when I saved it instead of 2,905 KB. But I have many details I need to copy out and it would be alot easier to be able to just use the wblock command instead of having to copy clip, open a new drawing, paste, save, etc. etc. every time.
