Technically this happens in Land Desktop, yet I have a feeling this is an AutoCAD error so I'm posting it here. Anyone ever see anything like the attached picture? What would cause it?
Could the XREF no longer be attached somehow?

I'm trying to figure that out! This is what a client sent another individual in our company as a screen shot. The guy that got the email yells "Brian, have you ever seen anything like this?" I came over and started laughing! I really thought for a second it was a joke email.. its not. I'm still attempting to get the facts on if this is an AutoCAD issue or related specifically to this particular drawing (waiting for an email back). I thought I'd post it on here as it has potential to be an educational solution (and doesn't reveal much about the client/project) in case anyone has seen this before and knows what could be going on. I'd suggest re-attaching the X-Ref, but its still an amazing little error...

And you receive drawings from this client often?Originally Posted by Dilbert

Could the XREF have been overwritten or somehow become corrupted during this drawing's session?Originally Posted by Dilbert

If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.

Have never seen that either - i doubt its from an x-ref, besides your client can check the xref manager or there are any unresolved attachments.
But surtain is that there is something really wrong with the layers, maybe an error in the dwg database.
You should errect an autocad funniest screenshots, put it besides the autocad gallery![]()

Still, a funny error...even funnier if it proves true. I'll let everyone know.

Hmmmm, that's what I was thinking.Originally Posted by Dilbert
Funny thing is that this guy isn't a practical joker... but the guy that claims to have this happen in his office might be. IF this is real, only an actual issue with AutoCAD itself could be causing this as it extends away from just data and into the actual program environment...so I've recommended that:Originally Posted by rkmcswain
1.) Make sure that others can open this file OK... they should be able to. If they can't then please send me the file.
2.) If others can open it fine then do a repair of AutoCAD... if this doesn't solve it then do a complete re-install.
3.) If this error still occurs (or it gets solved) let me know, I really want to see it resolved and this goes into my records as one of the strangest actions I've ever seen in an AutoCAD session...
I love helping people solve their problems, its the most educational experience you'll ever get...fixing other people's mistakes. I get a smile (grimace) then smile again on my face almost every day as a strange thing crosses my desk... I really enjoy this job!![]()

FYI: The problem was indeed a real one. I have a reliable set of eyes that saw it, yet it only happened once. That install was having issues on and off over the past few weeks (freezing in the middle of the project, etc) so I'm having them do a repair and if that still doesn't work, a reinstall of the software.
Sooo... the above image can officially be entered into the oddest AutoCAD error message Hall of Fame.![]()
