    Default Proper Way to Draw Arcs from a Survey in AutoCAD

    I know the format for drawing lines from a survey in AutoCAD, but how do I do arcs properly?

    I have the delta, R, L, and T.

    Forgive my stupidity, but it's been so long since I've worked with surveys, I'm not even sure what the delta and T represent...I guess I need to go back to geometry class!

    Thanks much for any assistance!

    Hi Jenna,

    R= Radius
    L= Length
    T = Tangent

    You will always need at least two pieces of data. In this case you can use the R and L

    The easiest way would be to draw an ARC or CIRCLE the required radius (if you draw a circle, break it to make an ARC), then use LENGTHEN to set the length.
    Do you have the Delta? (it may be represented by a triangle symbol)

    Using the delta and radius will result in a more accurate ARC.

    One way to do this:
    • Draw a line the same length as the radius
    • Copy this line in place (on top of itself)
    • Rotate the copied line the angle of the delta.
    • Now you have the center point, and two end points of the ARC

    Thank you for your quick response!
    One question from this...how do I know where the center point of my arc is? I don't believe it's shown on the survey.

    they are usually marked with a small cross, but i dont have any surveys on my desk at the moment to verify that.

    If the arc is tangent to a line, then turn 90° from the line, at the endpoint of the line, the distance of the radius.

    If the arc is tangent to another arc, then the CP is along the same bearing as endpoint of the previous arc to the centerpoint of the previous arc, the distance of the radius.

    If the arc is non-tangent to the previous entity, then you will need to have the radial bearing (bearing from CP to EP), or the chord bearing (bearing from EP to EP)
