No. It is highly documented that Revit Structures 4 is compatible ONLY with Revit Building 9.1, and that there is no backwards compatibility in any Revit product. Have your architect upgrade to Revit 9.1.
There has also been a reported bug in the current 9.1 build that causes any current workset created in 9.0 to become corrupt when upgraded to 9.1. Also note that Revit is NOT backwards compatable.

Where is this documented? Why can't Revit Structure 3 work with Building 9.1? This is a bit silly.....
Will there be a RS4.1 or will it be RS5 and will it be compatible with RS9.1 or RS10
And what is the relevant version of Revit systems for each of these.
Do we need to keep all our older versions of Revit installed in-case we need to work with someone who has not updated to the latest version.
If this is the case then we need a machine with every option of Revit and every version
The numbering and compatibility will only get worse as different versions of Revit become available.
I am still hoping we can return to Revit (All-in) then at least the design team can have a policy decision that the project will be say V9.0 throughout. If at some point during the project, all members make a decision to upgrade to V9.1 for example then the project files can be upgraded accordingly.

It's not. You should be able to take a RS3 model into 9.1 just fine. You can't take an RS4 model into RB9.0. That'd be downgrading.Originally Posted by frank.graham
As for keeping prior versions. I'd suggest making an Archive of it and keep it. The point is that everyone (from my understanding) must be on a subscription so there's no reason not to down grade. You paid for the upgrade so use it. Of course when they have bugs like these you may want to wait a month before doing so. Just some thoughts.

Yes, but the Architects Revit 9.1 file cannot be used in the RS3 model, so you lose the ability to "round-trip" the link for coordination.Originally Posted by david_peterson
This is not a global issue, it MAY happen and Revit support is prepared to assist if it should happen. A new build will address the issue at some point in the future.Originally Posted by david_peterson
As a routine, no project file should ever be upgraded to a new version without saving a backup copy first. Just a safe and best practice for upgrading files using any software.
So now I need a few computers with different release numbers and the same project in different releases. So I need to draw the same project multiple times?!? Really we should work in 8.1 and only upgrade at the last minute.
You should communicate with your design team to determine what versions will be used, and stick to it.
You can have multiple versions of Revit installed on the same computer. If the project is in Revit 8.1, the RS3.0 must be used. If in 9.1, then RS4.0 must be used.
