converting description keys from land to c3d

I already have description keys for my points in land already set up how do i bring them into civil 3D ?

Isn't this capability only in C3D 2007?

Well, I wouldn't know and did not consider any other version other than 07.

This is a rather involved process that I learned at CAD Camp. I have not done this yet myself so I will just give you abbreviated instructions from the handout.

1. Insert all the symbol blocks to the prototype drawing.
2. Create a point style for each description key. Set the marker, the block and point layers.
3. Import the description keys. From the General pull-down in C3D select Import Data from Land Desktop. Select your project and uncheck everything except Description Keys.
4. Associate each key to a point style.

We saw a demo of Steltman software that did this whole process automatically. Not sure what the cost is though.

Jeff, as Christian mentioned in the first reply, C3D 2007 will do all this for you automatically.

That will get your description keys into your C3D prototype but you still need to go through the other steps to make them work. The symbols and layers are assigned in the C3D point style, not the description keys. At least that's what they told us at CAD Camp. They were using the 2007 version.

You're right. My bad. I thought I had done this in 2007 and it did everything... I just tried it and you're right, it only sets up the description keys and the Point Style and Point Label Style are still set to <default>

I wonder why Autodesk didn't finish this tool? Wouldn't have been very difficult...

So I guess there is still a market for Robert Steltman's tool
