    Default AccuRender 4 Jealousy

The new features in AccuRender 4 for AutoCAD 2002-2007:
    http://www.accurender.com/4/new.htm

I'm imagining that it may be possible to use the x-data contained in DWG exports from Revit to re-apply AccuRender materials in ACAD (with AR4) with an AutoLISP application. Someday, when I've too much time on my hands I may attempt it.

PS: http://www.accustudio.com/ has been updated recently.

I'd agree. Jealous is a good word to describe this.

eh, not bad, but I'd rather get mental ray in Revit.
Here's what's coming out in Max 9... check out the Mental Ray improvements.

I would prefer to be able to have a full API so that we can have all the standalone renderers via a plugin. I prefer Maxwell. Now that Vray becomes a standalone application, it would be very nice to have it in Revit too.
Before that I would love to see some more modeling tools and a 100% import/export of some popular formats like MAX, FBX. Epix, etc,

Agreed. The sooner AccuRender is dropped and replaced with something like Max/VIZ, the better.

    So...
    Installed the AR4 eval. version.

Opened a DWG that I'd exported from Revit (faces not solids).

After hacking around for a while, it turns out that the AR materials survive the export from Revit! I just had to make sure the paths were all right and the user.mlib was the correct one that AR found.

Used an HDRI image for the lighting. It makes the shadows very diffuse.

The background image (planar) and reflecting image (cylindrical) are separate, which is very nice.

Messed with a few other settings.

Initial result attached (~10 minute render).

Here's another attempt at high resolution (~1.5 hours). Same technique I use in Revit.

The HDRI lighting seems like just lots of different light sources. Maybe could get a similar effect if I put a lot of studio lights around the building in Revit.

Gotta try an interior shot next to see if it comes out any better than I can do in Revit.

Looking pretty good. Where does the streaking come from? Does it render that way, is it a post effect, or is it a jpeg artifact?

That's a feature of AR4's evaluation version. Evaluation version also does not export .EPIX export.

Call me crazy, but what i really want to see is
1: Fix shadows so they show up when the camera is in shadow
2: give me a nice Sketchup like render in revit.

then I can use revit as my design tool, and export to 3DS when I need high end renderings. I find that most offices I am familiar with do about 20-100 times as many design renderings as final renderings, and I would love to see Revit do more and better in that regard, and leave the really nice renderings for an external application that is for high end rendering and nothing else.
