Recessed wall based fixture

When creating a wall based fixture that is to be recessed in the wall, do I use a void in the family so it will cut the wall in the project? I can't use an opening because that will cut the entire depth of the wall. I just want the extent of my geometry within my family to cut the wall. thanks.

Yes, use a void. Be sure to either set the cut depth of the void, or make it a parameter so you can control how deep it cuts.
