Multiple Renders?

Hey Everyone,
I was just wondering if it is p[ossible to run several renders at the one time using Revit as they are taking up alot of time in the work place. This would make our work more productive as we could set up several views and run a high quality render of it overnight to allow less down time during the day.

It may be possible using the journal file. I tried it once and it kind of worked. If you have the exact same views that you're often rendering, you can record your steps once, save-as the journal file (maybe with edits), and drop that journal on the Revit desktop icon.

YMMV.

Obviously would be nice if there was a proper batch rendering tool. Could it be done with the API?

No, journal files are it. I would recommend MAX/VIZ if you are doing that much rendering. This would allow you to not only batch render but also use all PC's on the network if desired.

Another way is to make a course walkthrough (high-res) and use the individual frames as your renderings.

Yeah, could do that, You'd simply have to aquire the software, re-do all the materials, lighting, plantings, etc., deal with DWG export/linking, learn how to use MAX and whatever renderer you use, learn how to setup render farm, administer keeping the model and its materials, lighting, plantings, etc., up to date,...

Someone here made a script, where you write a simple txt file with the file name and the views you want rendered, and you plug it in to a script that pounds out a proper journal file for you. It works great because then you dont have to mess with the journal yourself.

I (and i suck at messing with code) edited the script so that you could change the output and make it export the rendering via the export in the file menu, instead of the button (more options to export).

I cant remember where it is on AUGI, but its here. It works great, as long as you take care to prep before running it (make sure there are no conflicts with the instructions in the journal or it crashes...)

Weve used it on a few projects to make them run overnight...
