Default A couple of ADT/ABS questions

    1. Can ADT/ABS 2004 users open drawings that were created in ADT/ABS 2006 (and not saved back drawings that is)?

    2. If ADT/ABS 2006 users save all their drawings back so that 2004 users can collaborate on these drawings will this in effect negate all the advantages of using 2006 over 2004? Can you please elaborate on what some of those advantages are?

    3. Is there anything in an ADT drawing that and ABS user can not view and modify?

    4. Is there anything in and ABS drawing that and ADT user can not view and at least move/at most modify?

-You can't use CAD-files created in version 2006, if you only have the 2004 version of ADT/ABS.

-If ADT/ABS 2006 users save all their drawings back so that 2004 users can collaborate on these drawings, it simply gives access to view and edit the drawings. It wouldn't have any bad effect.

-ABS are kind of an upgrade to the ADT version, so I doubt that an ABS version would have any trouble reading files from ADT.

-But i might give some problems the other way around, since ADT can't draw installations etc. as possible in ABS.

    Kind Regards

Yes Can you please elaborate on what some of those advantages are? Most of the upgrade seems to be in object creation, rather than format, I have had no problems saving back, but the file size does appear to go up.

    3. Is there anything in an ADT drawing that and ABS user can not view and modify? No, ABS is built on top of ADT.

    4. Is there anything in and ABS drawing that and ADT user can not view and at least move/at most modify? I have found that the ABS schematic module is invisible to everyone but ABS users (and it's rubbish), other than that it all seems viewable, but I wouldn't recommend ADT users trying to modify anything that is ABS.

Yes you can 2004/2005/2006 all use a 2004 dwg file format. Therefore there is no such thing as a 2006 saved back to 2004, a 2006 file format does not exist.

I thought that the file format changed for 2006, or is that 2007?

While the format changed for 2007, not 2006, there are certain objects that did not exist in 2004 that were added in 2006. Example of this would be the space objects. In 2006 they were given the feature of having not only Net Area boundary but also Gross and Usable area boundary. Opening a file in a version prior to 2006 (i.e.: 05 or 04) the user would only see the Net Area boundary of the object. There are other changes but they escape me at the moment.

That would account for my confusion over the format changes. Glad we got that cleared up and I have still not (completely) lost my marbles.

No problem. I figure that my reply was like mud anyways on a muddy subject so you're doing quite well...
