Default Revit file size & performance

Forgive me if this has already been discussed. I searched for it (quickly) and didn't find much...

What does everyone know about the relationship between project file size and perfomance. I have heard various people indicate that there is little or no correlation between the two and that the real memory hog is how much you're showing in a particular view. However, my initial tests have made me think that there is a tremendous relationship between the two.

    Who has insight into this?

The rough rule of thumb is that there's a 20:1 ratio between compacted file size and its footprint in RAM. But with enough RAM, file size is only a secondary problem.

The main performance killers in Revit are number of objects and number of relationships.
