We had people taking the F1 key off their keyboards. I liked everything as mns. Now they had to over-complicate it with the cui files, and it doesn't let you add new accelerators through it, only temporary overrides. My solution is to make an mns file of your own, put this in it:

    ***ACCELERATORS
    ["F1"]^C^C
    ["F12"]^C^Chelp

Note: There is a space after help for enter.

Type CUI in AutoCAD and load the mns (partial customization) file and it will create a cui and override those keys. If you want it to say F12 next to help in the menu, then in the CUI window go to Menus - Help and change the Line &Help\tF1 to &Help\tF12

I have no idea how to override F1 in Revit.

As everyone's mentioned, the keyboard short cuts is highly personalized. For my view orientations, I prefer the following:

    ONN - Orient View North
    OSS - Orient View South
    OEE - Orient View East
    OWW - Orient View West

    ONE - Orient View Northeast
    ONW - Orient View Northwest
    OSE - Orient View Southeast
    OSW - Orient View Southwest

    OT - Orient Top
OVP - Orient View to Plane
OVV - Orient View to Other View

    OSV - Save View

Andre - Can't work without it!... Check these others out

    "ES" menu:"Tools-Element Ids-Ids of Selection"
    "EI" menu:"Tools-Element Ids-Select by Id"

    "FP" menu:"Settings-Family Category and Parameters"
    "FT" menu:"Settings-Family Types"

I've been doing a LOT of family editing and group selection recently. Additional parameters added to your entire library can get a bit tedious, so the ones that won't update through an edited version of the update script, have to be done manually. Maybe thats another tips & tricks subject

I have been pretty lax on keyboard shortcuts and this was just the push I needed to switch to more productivity. I've used many of the ones posted here (thank you) but I don't use the zoom window very much (use the mouse wheel) so I changed

    "ZZ" - undo

    rather than Ctrl - Z

Thumbs up Re: KeyboardShortcuts.txt -- what's your strategy?

This is a really helpful thread. I had some similar ones to those posted, AA, DD, TT, OO.
I added some new ones thanks to this thread.
For now this is my list:

    ; Preferred order section:
; Place frequently used shortcuts here to advance them in the first letter sequence.
; Example placing the "WA" menu:"modelling-wall" at the top of the list will make
; it first in the selection sequence for "W".
    ;
    "A" menu:"Tools-Align"
    "AA" menu:"View-Activate View"
    "C" snapcode:"Centers"
    "CC" menu:"Edit-Copy"
    "CCC" menu:"Window-Close Hidden Windows"
    "D" menu:"Drafting-Dimension"
    "DA" menu:"View-Deactivate View"
    "E" snapcode:"Endpoints"
    "EE" menu:"Edit-Delete"
    "FF" menu:"File-Load from Library-Load Family"
    "FR" menu:"Modelling-Filled Region"
    "FT" menu:"Settings-Family Types"
    "H" menu:"View-Temporary Hide/Isolate-Hide Object"
    "I" snapcode:"Intersections"
    "II" menu:"View-Temporary Hide/Isolate-Isolate Object"
    "III" menu:"View-Temporary Hide/Isolate-Reset Temporary Hide/Isolate"
    "J" menu:"Tools-Join Geometry"
    "L" menu:"Drafting-Detail Lines"
    "M" snapcode:"Midpoints"
    "MM" menu:"Edit-Move"
    "MI" menu:"Edit-Mirror"
    "N" snapcode:"Nearest"
    "NN" menu:"View-New-Sheet"
    "O" menu:"Tools-Offset"
    "P" snapcode:"Perpendicular"
    "PP" menu:"View-View Properties"
    "PPP" menu:"Edit-Properties"

it's a stupid trick, but it works: take a business card, fold it into a rectangular 'tube', and then place it around your F1 key, like a little hollow pillar or tower with it's 'foundation' made by the gaps between your keys on the keyboard. This makes it so that I never hit F1 when I reach for the esc key, for there's a big paper thing in the way... lol...

Great thread. Big fan of the ` key for properties . . . my right mouse button, alt+enter keys and I thank you for that one Wes. I also think the use of the number pad for navigation in the 3D views is brilliant . . . very intuitive:

    "58" menu:"View-Orient-North"
    "52" menu:"View-Orient-South"
    "56" menu:"View-Orient-East"
    "54" menu:"View-Orient-West"
    "59" menu:"View-Orient-Northeast"
    "57" menu:"View-Orient-Northwest"
    "53" menu:"View-Orient-Southeast"
    "51" menu:"View-Orient-Southwest"
    "55" menu:"View-Orient-Top"

Thanks for that Simon . . . I've been using that setup since you originally shared it in this thread.

    We've added:

    "5P" menu:"View-Orient-By Plane"
    "5O" menu:"View-Orient-To Other View"
    "5S" menu:"View-Orient-Save View"

Our strategy for shortcuts has been to launch as many commands as possible without resorting to duplicate shortcuts which then requires arrowing through the list in the status bar. We currently have 286 unique and generally intuitive shortcuts defined which allows us to launch almost every command in Revit Structure without the need to mouse over to the design bar or up to the toolbars / menus.

With regards to one-key commands, we chose to set up our snaps this way since shortcuts starting with S are quite valuable for other commands. The key to making this work for our setup was to place the one-key commands at the top of the list so that they have priority. I guess with this approach it's still technically a two-key shortcut since you have to hit enter or the space bar after hitting the one-key shortcut if you also have two-key shortcuts starting with the same letter. Here's our one-key shortcut list so far:

    "I" snapcode:"Intersections"
    "E" snapcode:"Endpoints"
    "M" snapcode:"Midpoints"
    "C" snapcode:"Centers"
    "N" snapcode:"Nearest"
    "P" snapcode:"Perpendicular"
    "T" snapcode:"Tangents"
    "W" snapcode:"Work Plane Grid"
    "Q" snapcode:"Quadrants"
    "X" snapcode:"Points"
    "R" snapcode:"Snap to Remote Objects"
    "O" snapcode:"Snaps Off"
    "S" snapcode:"Turn Override Off"

It's also possible to duplicate the same two-key shortcut for two different commands without a conflict when dealing with certain commands. For example:

    "SW" menu:"Modelling-Host Sweep-Wall Sweep"
    "SW" menu:"Modelling-Solid Form-Solid Sweep"

In this example keying in SW will typically launch the Host Sweep -> Wall Sweep command directly without conflict. Once you enter the Create... command the SW shortcut will launch the Solid Form -> Solid Sweep command.

I didn't know you could use 3 characters in a shortcut

has anyone else tried the new shortcut highway?

We use "EIEIO" for Farm Buildings

(With a slight acknowledgement to the comedian at the last night of AU)
