Exclamation Sharing Tool Palettes on the network from AutoCAD LT

I would like to share my AutoCAD LT tool palettes on our network.

This seems simple enough, I just save my palettes on the network and change the tool palettes location on everyone elses machines, and it works except the order of the palettes, and palette grouping is not transfered to the other machines.

I don't want to export the palettes and groups and set them up on every other machine, is there a simple way to do this?

    Hi "ajd"

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD General forum to this one, as I feel this particular forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

    Thanks, Mike

    Hi

If Tool Palettes work the same in AutoCAD LT as they do in AutoCAD you need to look at / investigate the use of .AWS files.

A little more information on .AWS files can be found in the following post...

Unfortunately AutoCAD LT (2006) doesn't use profiles, although there is a default AWS file in the support folder for each user.

I have tried copying all of the files in the profile folder to an identical LT machine, and the palette grouping and order still doesn't transfer.

I did it the folloxwing way (don't need profiles for this)

    - Set up the toolbars as you want them on your local PC
    - Copy the toolpalettefolder (all it's content) to a network drive
    - set your toolpalette file location to the network folder
    - set your collueges toolpalette file location to the network folder.

Give everyone but you read access to that network folder to prevent unwanted modification to your toolpalettes by others.

    Thanks Johan,

I have got this far, but unfortunately, this doesnt transfer the Palette grouping or order/size of the icons to the other PCs

No that's true. Groups and order do not transfer to other machines.

We don't use groups for that reason, we just create "new toolpalette" to make different "areas"
    Does this help you?

    Hi

Below extract comes directly from Matt Murphy's - The Productivity Power of Palettes Revealed" - AUGI CAD Camp course...

If you want to maintain the order of tool on shared palettes, you'll need to move the original profile (.AWS) file to the local machine. As long as the profile exists locally with the same name as the original profile, the .AWS file will maintain the order of the tools based on the most recent locations.
    Have a good one, Mike
