    Default Drawing Scales in Layouts

Could someone point me in the right thread that discussed how drawing scales are made on layouts? I'm get pretty confused when a new layout sheet is setup on an existing drawing and i have to scale the new layout sheet, especially for drawings i did not make from scratch.

    Did the links above help?

I believe that when you review drafts, a precise scale is not always important. You can use the Scaled to Fit option to plot the view at a size that fits the paper. AutoCAD fits the height or width of the drawing to the corresponding height or width of the paper.

However if you are required to indicate a layout scale, be careful as 2 scales are involved:
    (1) the overall drawing layout, which usually is scaled 1:1, based on the paper size. Most designers make objects at their actual sizes in mm or inches, so this shouldn't be a problem.
    (2) the scale of the model itself, which is displayed in the layout viewport(s). The scale in the viewport represents a ratio of the paper size to the size of the model in the viewport. When you plot, you can choose the unit type, inches or millimeters, under Paper Size and Paper Units. For example, if mm is selected, entering 1 under Plotted mm and 10 under Drawing Units produces a plotted drawing in which each plotted millimeter represents 10 actual millimeters. This is the scale factor that should appear on your legend or layout title block.

Hope it helps because this is beginning to sound like an ATP class.

    Now i'm blushing!

Yeah right! After much consultation, I found that infomation on acad help menu and thought it'd be useful to you. I'm glad it helped, as I wasn't also sure of what you were asking! Mike has always been very handy with great links! I personally saved most of his links above in my favorites folder for future reference. Do not forget to browse around the forums here every now and then.

    Cheers!
